MemoArt project

MemoArt project

MemoArt project was born in 2015, in order to offer young people the opportunity to creatively express an intangible cultural heritage element linked to their roots so as to get attached to them.

This project’s aim is to  create a safe environment for the participants to freely and proudly present their personal cultural identity. Since these young people will be the future cultural and civil actors and decision makers, they will be responsible to strengthen democratic processes, to accommodate diversity and set the base for multicultural communities, and encourage other citizens to actively participate in shaping local community and society. The MemoArt project was designed to enhance this future role of young people.

The first phase of MemoArt project took place in Germany (September – December 2015), via the fellowship programme Start – Create Cultural Change .

In Stuttgart we collaborated with Kulturkabinett Kulturzentrum e.V., as well as with other socio-cultural centres, such as: Stage-divers(e) e.V., Dieselstrasse e.V., Komma Kultur, Hellenic Experimental Theatre of Stuttgart, TanzSportZentrum Stuttgart-Feurebach e.V. and Freunde der griechischen Kultur Stuttgart. Members of the aforementioned centres (dancers and theatre groups, immigrants and refugees from Gambia and Syria) participated in a series of workshops and seminars, such as: acrobatics, museum visits, drawing, theatre, social cuisine, music, cultural walks and dance. In the end, we filmed 13 stories from around the world, which are presented in a video-documentary.

The second phase of the
MemoArt project  took place in the island of Corfu (January – September 2016), with the support of the Laboratory of Museology of the Department of Archives, Library and Museology of the Ionian University and under the auspices of the Municipality of Corfu.
