Curating Exhibitions

Curating exhibitions is where museological research meets museographic design. It begins with content and meaning, and ends with space and form.

The Museological study defines:

  • the thematic axes (history, technology, society),
  • the content (texts, questions, narrative),
  • and the interpretive goals (what we want the audience to understand or feel).

The Museographic design defines:

  • the spatial placement of the objects,
  • lighting and conservation needs,
  • and what kind of visual or interactive material will accompany the experience.

Curation coordinates all of the above:

  • it approves the final selection of exhibition objects and how they are presented,
  • and ensures coherence throughout the exhibition.

In short, curating is the holistic process of conception, design, and implementation. It is the act of transforming content into experience through objects, images, sounds, and words.

Depending on the subject matter, we collaborate with the appropriate team each time: historians, educators, designers, artists, museologists, architects, so that every exhibition serves its institution, its content, and its audience with consistency. For us, curating is not merely a professional service. It is an act of care and precision, an effort to create spaces that inspire, raise questions, and create experiences. Some examples of our work include:

Bridging Generations (2023)

Following a series of intergenerational workshops on themes such as diversity, equality, and inclusion, as well as photography workshops, we curated an exhibition of the participants’ photographs. These works entered into a visual dialogue with the winning entries of the Photo Contest under the same title.

Let’s Play! (2023)

With “game” as the central theme, we guided 6th-grade students from the 1st Primary School of Vrilissia in organising their own exhibition. After participating in a series of workshops on excavation, conservation, research, and documentation, they completed all curatorial steps, from study and design to deinstallation of the exhibition.

From oblivion to light (2023)

For the 40th anniversary of The Helike Society, we curated the exhibition “From oblivion to light: The path of the discovery of the Ancient Helike”. An exhibition with the support of the local community -at every stage of implementation- and above all, under the scientific supervision of Dora Katsonopoulou and her team.

Piraeus, 1922: refugee documents (2022)

Marking 100 years since the Asia Minor Catastrophe, and with a focus on the city of Piraeus, we curated a narrative exhibition on the historical conditions of the time. The display included rare archival material, photographs, maps, and other documents, as well as testimonies accessible to the public through a mobile app.

Art Fairs @ Konio the bar (2015-2018)

Over a period of three years, we curated exhibitions and coordinated cultural events in the art room of Konio the bar. This resulted in more than 20 solo and group exhibitions spanning various visual media, accompanied by performances, live acts, screenings, workshops, and more.
