Born to be Archaeologist
What’s beneath my school?
Children grab their excavation tools and discover the profession of the archaeologist. What treasures might they find?

The educational programme “Born to be Archaeologist” aims to familiarise children with the profession of the archaeologist, which brings to life the richness of our cultural heritage in the most hands-on way. Beyond exploring the fascinating world of archaeology, the programme also seeks to raise awareness among students about the importance of cultural heritage.
A characteristic example of the programme’s implementation was the participation in the innovative Open Schools initiative by the Municipality of Athens, exclusively funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. School buildings were transformed into neighborhood meeting points and hosted cultural, educational and recreational activities. Within this framework, “Born to be Archaeologist” offered pupils, from 25 schools across the city, a hands-on excavation and creation experience, through 2-hours sessions that sparked children’s imagination and curiosity.
