Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
We have gathered and answered the most common questions we receive below. However, if you still have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Can I apply if I have no prior experience in printmaking?
Of course you can apply. We are not looking for printmaking experts. We are looking for visual artists who are interested in integrating sustainable printmaking practices and visual storytelling into their work, as well as collaborating with others to co-create.
Will we learn everything about printmaking?
No, we will not learn everything about printmaking. The art of printmaking is divided into many subcategories and has evolved in many different ways over the centuries. Even at a degree level, covering every single technique is nearly impossible. In any case, this is not an intensive printmaking course, but a project focused on sustainable practices, storytelling and co-creation.
I have no teaching experience. How will I manage to facilitate the group?
The pairs will be formed in a way that encourages mutual support. In addition, a member of the organising team will be present to support and guide the process.
Furthermore, if the applications reveal that a lack of teaching / facilitating experience is a common concern among participants, relevant training will be incorporated into the programme of Phase A.
Beyond eco-friendly printmaking techniques, the project also refers to visual storytelling. What does this mean?
Printmaking is often seen simply as a process of engraving and printing. In GreenPress, however, printmaking is not an end in itself; it is a means of narrating a story. Visual storytelling refers to the way artist pairs, together with local community groups, will combine eco-friendly printmaking techniques to communicate messages, share local stories, connect with cultural heritage, and explore contemporary environmental issues.
I am not fluent in Greek. Can I participate?
You don’t need to be!
- You can complete the application in English.
- During the international meetings, a member of the organising team will be available to facilitate communication.
- However, all local activities will be conducted in the local language(s).
What happens if someone is selected, but is ultimately unable to participate?
Phase Α (Art Workshops): If a selected participant withdraws, their place will be offered to the next person on the reserve list.
Residency: Participants’ availability will be taken into consideration when selecting the 3 people who will travel to Ireland.
I do not live in the area where the meetings will take place (Athens, Nicosia or Dundalk). Can I still participate?
Participation in the programme requires 100% in-person attendance throughout all phases of the project. If you are able to cover your own travel expenses and ensure your presence at all required activities, then yes, you can participate.
What do we mean by the term “Co-creation artworks”?
By “Co-creation artworks” or collective artworks, we mean works of art that are not created by an individual working independently in a studio, but emerge through a process of co-creation between the artist pairs and local community groups.
Is the theme of the final/collective artwork specific or free?
The theme is not strictly predetermined by the project, but is guided by its main thematic pillars: 1. Local identity and environment and 2. The ideas and artistic approaches of the groups participating in the co-creation workshops.
The framework is therefore thematically open, yet structured to reflect the core philosophy of GreenPress: the environment, local communities and visual storytelling. Artist pairs, working collaboratively with the local community groups, will have the freedom to shape the final thematic direction of the artworks, both in terms of content and in terms of media / techniques.
Which group will retain the Community Co-created Artworks at the end of the project?
The Intellectual Property Rights of all collective artworks will belong to all parties involved (artistic pairs, local community, organising partners) for promotion and visibility purposes – always with corresponding credits. However, none of the groups will have the right to commercially exploit the artworks.
When will the €1,500 stipend be paid?
During the project, travel and workshop expenses will be covered. However, the stipend will be paid at the end of the project (summer 2028) and only upon the completion of all stages.
Do I need to have a specific tax status or legal entity to receive the payment?
No, you do not need to have a specific tax status or legal entity. Each case will be considered individually, and the most appropriate solution will be agreed upon jointly.
In addition to travel expenses, are local transportation costs covered?
No, local transportation costs for the Art Workshops and Co-Creation Workshops are not covered by the project.
Can the workshop schedule be changed?
The schedule for the Phase A Art Workshops cannot be changed. It was selected based on the average availability of individuals already involved in education and visual arts in each country.
In a later phase, the schedule for the Co-creation Workshops will be jointly decided between the artistic pairs and the local community groups.
How many trips are involved?
There are two international meetings:
- Residency in Ireland (7 days): Participants from Greece and Cyprus will travel to Ireland.
- Group Exhibition in Cyprus (3 days): Participants from Greece and Ireland will travel to Cyprus.
* For all these trips, travel, accommodation and meal expenses will be covered, as well as the costs of materials required for the workshops and exhibitions.
Are the 10 Co-creation Workshops mandatory for all groups?
Yes, participation in all 10 workshops is mandatory. These workshops are one of the most important stages of the project, as the final collective artworks will be developed during this phase.
In the multiple-choice questions on the application form, can I select more than one option?
Yes, for most questions you have the option to select more than one.
What is the scope of the application?
The purpose of the application is the fair selection of the 6 artists who will participate in the following phases of the project.
We are looking for people from the visual arts field – not exclusively from printmaking, who have the willingness to experiment and collaborate, provide realistic answers, and help us map actual needs. Specifically regarding the mapping, we will use it to shape the next stages of this project, as well as our future actions.
On the contrary, we are not looking for proposals for the final form of the collective artworks, nor for a detailed project plan. These steps will be developed gradually and collaboratively, during the later phases of GreenPress.
