Roads of Culture
The Municipality of Maroussi, in collaboration with Peripatos, launches a series of interactive cultural walks. Our aim is to familiarise participants with the rich cultural heritage and tradition of one of the oldest municipalities in Attica, while also offering a constructive and enjoyable way to spend free time.
The first theme of the action “The Roads of Culture“ is “Athmomon-Amarysia: A City of 3000 Years“. The few remaining archaeological findings of the area will be highlighted, as an integral part of the city’s later history. Where the church of Virgin Mary of Neratziotissa stands today, there was once the ancient temple of Artemis, while the church of Saint John of Pelica was built upon the foundations of a Roman temple dedicated to the goddess by Herod. Centreed around the Byzantine chapels, references will be made to the city’s ancient and recent past, as well as to its modern identity.
- Sunday, November 5, 2017 (10:30 a.m.)
- Sunday, December 3, 2017 (10:30 a.m.)
In the second thematic, entitled “Craftsmen and Artists in Maroussi”, works and creators of fine, applied, and folk arts of the city will be presented. Some of the interest points of the route are the “Spyros Louis” Olympic Gallery, the Folklore Museum and the Hellenic Ceramic Centre.
