TONAL ATONAL

A journey full of music and technology!

For various reasons, not all children can visit cultural spaces. With the aim of bridging this gap, cultural organisations create educational material that travels to schools all over Greece and beyond.

For this purpose, we collaborated once again with Uni Systems, Museotek and the Music Library “Lilian Voudouri”, in order to create an educational digital educational kit, in the context of the project “Creation, promotion and utilisation of a digital inventory of the Friends of Music Society”.

As Peripatos, we undertook the design of the educational experience, the development of the educational material, the illustration and the graphic design of the digital educational kit, entitled “TONAL ATONAL”. This educational kit focuses on the life and work of the Greek composer Nikos Skalkotas (1904-1949), as well as on the introduction to tonal and atonal music. Our goal was to render the special historical and musical information in an accessible, understandable and visually appealing way.

Every organisation, of formal or non-formal education, can borrow the digital educational kit and discover the life and work of the composer Nikos Skalkotas. Through videos and musical excerpts, games and activities, children can discover the intelligent personality of Nikos Skalkotas and learn about the composer’s unique approach -which is radically different from anything similar in the history of music- of combining tonality with atonality and Greek traditional with European classical music.

By using contemporary pedagogical approaches, based on musical-kinetic expression and utilising digital tools, we combined audio-visual elements, with creative, cognitive and motor activities that encourage participation and exploration, allowing children to understand the uniqueness of Nikos Skalkotas and his music.

We’re genuinely excited about this partnership, through which we have created an innovative educational experience that combines music with interactive learning and has the potential to offer cultural organisations a new means of disseminating their cultural assets.

The project was implemented within the framework of the Operational Programme Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (NSRF 2014-2020), co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union.
