The Architect Ioannis Lazarimos

Behind the Piraeus we know today lies one person’s vision and legacy: architect and municipal engineer, Ioannis Lazarimos. The new exhibition at the Piraeus Municipal Art Gallery, dedicated to his life and work, explores his decisive contribution to shaping the city at the end of the 19th century.

Featuring original drawings, archival documents, and photographic material, the exhibition showcases Lazarimos’s role in the creation of public buildings, churches, schools, and social infrastructure, culminating in his masterpiece, the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus, which this year marks the 130th anniversary of its inauguration. The exhibition presents the vision of a man who connected architecture with public interest, aesthetics, and functionality.

Peripatos is responsible for the curation of the exhibition and the development of its multimedia content, contributing to the design of the visitor experience and to the interpretive approach through a contemporary perspective on the remarkable work of Ioannis Lazarimos.

The exhibition is part of the celebrations for the 130th anniversary of the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus and is organised by the Development Organisation “PEIRAIAS SYN SOLE SHAREHOLDER CO. S.A.”, in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Piraeus, and is funded by the Regional Operational Programme “Attica 2021-2027” through the Integrated Spatial Investment (ISI) of the Municipality of Piraeus.
