Naval Wave

In the context of the European Heritage Days (EHD) for 2026, under the theme Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine, we designed a new walking experience entitled Where Water Shapes the City: Stories from Piraeus

It is an experiential philosophical walk, as a result of the walk entitled Naval Wave: a walking route exploring Piraeus’ naval architectural heritage, which we implemented in 2025.

Set against the backdrop of Piraeus’s coastal and urban waterfront, this philosophical walk examines the concepts of decay and the loss of iconic landmarks, the resilience of surviving monuments, as well as the need to reimagine and revive our relationship with cultural heritage.

Through guided peripatetic dialogues and gentle, structured activities of documentation and reflection in public spaces, participants are invited to connect the “decay” and “resilience” of the historic landscape with their own personal and professional challenges, discovering contemporary practices for psychological and collective resilience.

Designed and implemented by: Peripatos socio-cultural enterprise, within the framework οf EHD

  • Sunday, 27 September 2026, 17:00

Naval Wave

In the context of the European Heritage Days (EHD) for 2025, under the theme “Architectural Heritage: Windows to the Past, Doors to the Future”, we have designed a new walking experience entitled Naval Wave: a walking route exploring Piraeus’ naval architectural heritage”.

From the ancient naval base to the 19th-century neoclassical buildings, and up to modern centers of shipping, education, and culture, this route is a journey through time, showcasing the architectural wealth of Piraeus and revealing the city’s deep and unbroken connection with the sea.

During the route, participants have the opportunity to discover how the sea shaped the economic, social, and cultural identity of Piraeus, as well as its architecture. The action combines elements of history, architecture, and local identity, presenting Piraeus as a vibrant maritime hub with a rich past and promising future.

Designed and implemented by: Peripatos socio-cultural enterprise, within the framework οf EHD and under the auspices of the Municipality of Piraeus – Department of Culture.
