This summer, we had the chance to experience first hand the value of artistic expression in the activation of the local community and specifically of children, with the aim of engaging in public matters and promoting their place.
The socio-cultural programme AKTES is designed for small islands so as to enhance children’s participation in community life. Guest artists on the island collaborate with the children through an artistic process of co-creating activities around a theme, which each time concerns a strategic area of development of the island. We participated in the programme with an engraving workshop, so that the children of Ai Stratis can capture the unique aspects of their island. The children with our guidance created original canvas bags and postcards in order to be used by local businesses as touristic products to promote the island.
